How to choose a local snake catcher

Choose a business that can confirm it serves your address, can take the job and holds the relevant current authority for the work. A nearby map pin alone cannot confirm those things.

Start with the address and the job

Search by town or postcode, then contact a suitable business. Explain whether the snake is inside, outside or no longer visible. Ask the catcher to confirm your location is within their actual working area and whether they can attend now.

A straight-line service radius is a search aid, not a travel-time estimate. Roads, access, water crossings and other bookings can affect attendance. Ask the business for its own estimate rather than assuming the nearest pin will arrive first.

Check licensing and who will attend

Ask for the relevant current state or territory licence or permit details and the name of the business attending. Requirements differ between jurisdictions, so a credential from elsewhere should not be assumed to authorise work at your address.

The Queensland Government advises using a licensed snake catcher and leaving capture and relocation to professionals. If you are unsure about a credential, check with the relevant wildlife authority rather than relying on a directory label alone.

Understand our listing labels

A public research listing records contact details found in published sources. It is not proof of current licensing, operating hours, network membership or acceptance of a job. Research sources and the research date are shown on these profiles.

Approved member profiles are a different category. Even when a licence has been checked, availability can change and the independent business must still confirm the booking. Default 24/7 availability on imported records is a system setting, not verified business opening hours.

Agree on the visit before confirming

Ask about the full fee, search time, cancellation terms and the charge if the snake is not found. Let the catcher explain how the visit will work and what they need from you.

If nobody can attend, keep your distance and try another suitable local professional. Do not interpret an unanswered call as a reason to handle the animal yourself. For a suspected human bite, call 000 immediately.
